News on Diocese of Sheffield’s next bishop—Tues 28 Feb

On Tuesday, 28 Feb, The Sheffield Telegraph reports on the distress and anxiety in the Diocese of Sheffield arising from the nomination of Philip North (Bishop of Burnley) to be next Bishop of Sheffield. Included are quotes from two Sheffield Ministry Equality activists, Sue Hammersley (Vicar, St Mark’s Broomhill) and Jeremy Clines (Anglican chaplain at the University of Sheffield). Sue explains there is no “attack on Bishop Philip – he is part of the system that we’re all part of”. Jeremy goes on to explain the pastoral letter for Bishop Philip is written to seek “better, and more, conversation. He can help us explore some of the burning questions we have but can’t make sense of.” Read more.
