Latest Sheffield news, 2nd March


The start of Lent began with a statement for licensed lay and ordained members of the Diocese—from the Acting Diocesan bishop for Sheffield, Peter Burrows—about the nomination announcement. We are all asked to pray for each other and for Bishop Philip who has entered into a Lenten retreat.

Sioned Mair-Richards, a member of St Peter, Ellesmere has written a piece for her parish magazine, that we have re-posted here.

Revd Canon Julie Upton from the Manor Parish says ‘Justice cannot be subdivided‘  in her reply to an article about the Diocese of Sheffield, poverty, and the nomination.

MP Ben Bradshaw has asked in the House of Commons how the state church can continue to operate in discriminatory ways (in the light of the Bishops’ sexuality report).
