Since news broke about Bishop Philip North’s withdrawal from the See of Sheffield many  entered a period of mourning. Sheffield Action for Ministry Equality have, until 17 March been in a silent period, but have spoken among other voices on BBC Sheffield on Sunday 12 March.

We lament the church’s lack of understanding of the depth of concern which people around the diocese have felt over this appointment.

We called upon all visitors to this site to enter into a period of reflection and/or prayer, personally and corporately. We still ask for people to hold those of us in this diocese in their prayer or reflections.

We also sense an invitation from God for all of us in the Church of England to take responsibility for our part in a process that has caused such pain for so many people.

We pray for Bishop Philip that he may fully recover from an ordeal we believe he should never have had to face.

This is a sad moment for the Church of England but we hope and pray that, in time, greater wisdom will emerge.

We have published a couple of Sheffield prayers on 6 March and have put up a few additional prayer resources that we will add to in due course.
